Calm before the storm...

I start a new job next week. Monday morning, bright and early, I will be trooping to the next town over and getting settled in behind my new desk.

Starting a new job is super scary. I have a feeling of dread in my stomach and a fuzzy head thinking about it. To cheer myself up I have been looking on Modcloth for things that I want to buy when I get my first pay cheque...

 All pieces available at modcloth

The big graphic jumper that reminds me of Saved By The Bell is sold out :-(

This week I have been relaxing, getting sunburnt and spending time with friends and family.

I wore my favorite summer dress and new sandals...

And I went for a lovely dinner and had a champagne cocktail, very extravagant right?

But overall, I've mostly been getting sunburnt, eating mint feasts and making potato salad.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Navy & White Heart Nails

 Hi :-)

I have a fun nail tutorial to share today. Apologies for the slightly scabby hand in the first picture, I fell off a wall after jumping up there to avoid an out-of-control bicycle.

You can see here that my nails are actually in quite bad condition. How embarrassing.

I use a simple clear polish as a base coat, as I resent paying 5 quid for a clear polish labelled as a 'base coat'. I'm sure there are some benefits of buying the real thing, but I find my polish lasts 4-5 days without chipping using this method, by which time I'm board and want to change it up anyway.

This navy colour is 114 by NYC 'Ink Stain' it has just the right amount of shimmer. I'm going to be wearing it with alternate matt navy stripes when I go back to work.
Put a blob of white out on an old piece of plastic packaging, or a plate. Dip the head end of a pin into it and make two adjacent blobs. Use the end of the pin to drag a little of the white down into a heart shape. Fill in with another blob of paint. Super-easy, but needs a steady hand.

Set out a blob of clear polish. Use a pin to put a tiny speck right next to the heart. Use the still-tacky pin to pick up a tiny gem (mine are Anitas Craft Gems in 0.3mm, but special nail gems might be less bumpy) and press it onto the speck.

Finish off by painting two coats of clear polish over the whole thing, including the gem.

I hope you like this, please leave a comment if you do :-)

I also made this little collage today, so I could add my nail tute to Pintrest. I'm becoming a serious Pintrest addict.

Have a lovely day. Later this week I'll be posting a DIY on turning an ankle-swinging frumpy maxi-dress into a thigh-skimming sexy minidress.

Cocktails vs. Sundaes

Weekends are for small guys and drinks with friends and cocktails and slobbing and recovering and playing and bat walks.

Tonight we are going on a bat walk along a local nature walk, where we should see some bats. To be honest, I'm more a cocktail kind of girl.

Here's a cocktail that I received after making a stink about never having had a cocktail in a triangle glass. Only to be told firmly that I had in fact has one the previous week. I don't know what was in it, but it was pretty yum :-)

I was out celebrating a friends birthday, I should have some photos of that soon.

Saturday my little guy had a party to go to, and as I went to collect him, from just round the corner, I came across this bizarre sight;

Who abandons a single shoe? Why have three people abandoned individual shoes here? Is this some sort of bizarre shoe graveyard that I don't know about?

Today we went to the Harvester and my little guy had a sundae. I would have rather had a large cocktail but I suppose if I can't have that, a sundae will do.

Hope your weekend is full of smiley guys eating sundaes too.

Spring Clean

Yesterday was all about sorting my home out. I've let things slide over the last two weeks and there was some serious cleaning to be done. Obviously, first of all I had to research on Pintrest other peoples tidy and beautiful homes.

Of course, I don't quite has the resources for these kind of rooms right now, but I did organise all my earrings...
And I even cleaned all the windowsills.

Now I'm off for some more job interviews. I did get a great job offer for a company based in my town...I just need to see what else is out there really. Two interviews this afternoon. I'll tweet a picture of my interview outfit shortly. Why not follow me on twitter? @katy_clouds.

I'm so into getting another tattoo at the moment, and all those hours on Pintrest are at least contributing to some sort of idea forming in my head...here are some of my favourite pictures that I have some across in the last few days...

Coffee & Curtains

So, I headed out to Starbucks because the house is getting way too messy for my liking. Too many people now Mummy isn't working. Mummy needs a job.

I ate a Lemon & Poppyseed muffin, and an entire bucket of coffee. And then I learnt that Starbucks do free refills.

So I had another. Yum.

Two job interviews down, 6 to go.

I pretty much have spent more time looking at Pintrest than actually jobseeking. So many beautiful things, so little financial resource. I mean, really. Of course I can't afford to spend 50 smackers on a frilly shower curtain. I don't even have a shower, but for the love of god I want this -

May your day be filled with the shower curtains of your dreams.

Maybe that's just me?

Newness.

Hi.

This is my new space. New name, new space, new...everything.

So, I just lost my job. I was working as a specialist recruiter in the Facilities Management industry. I am now working in a new capacity as someone who waits at peoples houses for packages to arrive, someone who takes their little boy swimming, someone who occasionally drinks too much wine and stays up too late on a school night.

It's not a very well paid career.

I appreciate not having to get up at 5am.

I have spent the week mooching about in a confused fashion. I'm generally not sure what to do with myself. It feels odd not to be forced to eat avocado sandwiches and sushi at 1pm exactly. I don't really know what happened to my personality. Maybe an office job isn't for me because the pounding that I have felt in my head for the last 6 months hasn't surfaced once this week. I haven't shut myself in a toilet and had to take 10 deep breathes before I punch something.

I am relieved.

So here I will make my new home. I love crafting, social networking, taking photos of things that are quite irrelevant, and writing tutorials about things that are not.

I hope you'll stay.
